An ideal family night

 Imagine this,

It’s a slow evening, we’re just in the house, the sun is setting, throwing a soft orange glow.

We have both decided against going out, so we’re in the kitchen, preparing chapos and beef-stew. There’s some flour on your cheek and I pretend not to notice it until later.

We’re teasing each other about who has the better onion cutting technique. You’re smiling because you’ve always hoped to get a man who’s very willing to cook, even if not everyday.

The Radio is playing soft Swahili gospel.

Food is ready, we’ve served and called the girls from their rooms.

A short prayer and we dig in, as we breakdown how our days have been. After that, you take the dishes back to the sink.

We shift to the living room and we put on a movie, that we’ve both watched, so we can ignore it and talk.

We sit at opposite sides of the same couch, we smile at each other and start  talking random stories about shule days.

The girls are full and they have started dozing off(like their mum). So we decide to put them to bed and do a quick drive.

We decided to take your convertible, so that we can enjoy the breeze.

It’s late and quiet.

We park near a mountain, at a distance just near a park. You start being touchy and suggestive…

We start kissing.

But almost immediately, we pause to reminisce about how far we’ve come, how much effort we’ve put, just to be here. We started conjuring imaginary scenarios that might have happened if we didn’t stick together, through the good and the bad, how life would have been if we never took the risks we took.

It really was a much needed drive.

We pass by the local cafeteria by the petrol station and grab tea. We head home, happy and full on love for ourselves, for each other and for God.

We get home, have good sex and sleep.

That’s my ideal family night.
