When a Fish Loves a Bird: A Story About Love, Boundaries, and Choosing Life!
Sometimes the most powerful lessons about love come from simple metaphors. I came across this piece in a TikTok comment and it struck me deeply, so I’m sharing it here (credit to the original commenter who I can't really recall his User). It’s a short parable about a fish and a bird who fall in love, and the choices they face when their worlds cannot fully overlap. Beyond its poetic beauty, it invites us to reflect on what true love really means — whether it should be about sacrifice, or about freedom and respecting each other’s nature.
"A fish and a bird may indeed Fall in Love, but where shall They live"? Fish replied "my dear bird, love is not meant to be a cage, nor a sacrifice of who we are. You are made for the sky, to dance with the wind, to chase the horizon. And I, I am meant for the water, to glide with the currents, to breathe where I belong. If love is true, it should not bring pain or suffering. It should not ask for wings to drown or fins to wither in the sun. Let us not hold each other back. Let us be free. What joy is there in watching you suffer, gasping for breath in the waters that give me life? What happiness is there in seeing myself wither in a world where I do not belong?" And the fish chose life!
Reply Blinded by love, the bird answered "What if, I build a nest near to the pond you are living in. What if, you swim, and I follow you. May it be a pond, lake, river, the oceans, wherever. What if, I drink and bathe in the water you live in. Will that not be the purest form of love? Even if you decide to be a fish in someone's fishbowl, let me be the bird in their cage. All I wish is to see your smiling face, steal a kiss or two and be with you till death do us apart. All you have to do is Just Stay! Because if you love me the same way I do. I will make a way to be with you." and the fish chose life!"

If this story resonated with you, I’ve written a follow-up post where I expand on its meaning and explore how it relates to real-life relationships, Titled, "A Fish And A Bird Can Fall In Love - But Where Would They Live??"
